Have Yourself in Gay Times, published January 2008.

Had too much to drink?

These slumped figures are Matthew Lippiatt's submission in the group exhibition Have Yourself, showcasing the work of 14 emerging or established gay artists. "Forty years after the decriminalisation of male homosexual acts in private, we thought it was worth publicly posing the question: does gay art still exist?" co-curator Michael Keenan explains. "On the whole this is not a show of erotic art, and most of it isn't particularly sexual, but it is art formed by people with a particular sexualised awareness. How much are we keen now to erase the 'sensibility' with which oppression isolated us; or with 'liberation' has it all become mainstream?" Good question.
